A chisel & wire wheel worked pretty good.

The old gasket stuck to the flange needed to come off. It was not pretty.

15 minutes with a chisel & wire wheel resulting in this.

It’s not all off but enough that a new gasket will get a good seal.

The pipe is stainless, so it’s just tarnished.

Hmm, I should have just used this to “fix” the rust on my Miata instead of paintstakingly cutting and welding new metal in place! Although then there would probably be no car left...
